Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

FarmShed ("we", "us", "our") connects Kenyan farmers with verified agronomists, equipment providers and farmhands. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. We handle your information in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

By creating an account or using FarmShed, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on your role, we collect the following:

  • Account details: your name, email address, phone number and county.
  • Profile information: for agronomists and equipment providers, this includes your bio, credentials, specialisations, equipment, rates and experience. For farmhands, this includes your skills and your local chief's name, phone number and location.
  • Verification documents: national ID or passport, professional certificates, business or equipment ownership documents, a profile photo (selfie), certificates of good conduct, and chief's recommendation letters, as applicable to your role.
  • Location data: the GPS coordinates of your farm or working area, where you choose to provide them, so we can match you with nearby people.
  • Activity data: jobs you post or apply to, messages you send through our in-app chat, reviews, field notes, and payment records.
  • Technical data: basic information your device and browser provide when you use the platform.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and verify your identity and credentials.
  • To match farmers with agronomists, equipment providers and farmhands, including showing nearby people based on location.
  • To enable communication between users through in-app chat and notifications.
  • To process payments and, where applicable, release funds to providers.
  • To send you transactional emails such as sign-up confirmations, password resets and important updates.
  • To review and approve or reject applications, and to keep the platform safe and trustworthy.
  • To respond to your questions and provide support.

3. Payments

Payments on FarmShed are processed by Intasend, our third-party payment provider, using M-Pesa. When you pay, your M-Pesa PIN and full payment credentials are entered on your own phone and handled by Safaricom and Intasend — FarmShed does not see or store your M-Pesa PIN. We keep a record of the transaction (such as amount, status and a reference) to operate the service.

4. Matchmaking and Contact Details

When a farmer pays the one-time matchmaking fee to connect with a farmhand, the farmhand's contact details and their chief's contact details are shared with that farmer. Any agreement on work, wages or terms is made directly between the farmer and the farmhand off the platform. FarmShed is a connection service and is not the employer of any farmhand or provider.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run FarmShed:

  • With other users, to the extent necessary to make a connection — for example, a provider's public profile is visible to farmers, and contact details are shared after a successful match or payment.
  • With service providers who help us operate, including Supabase (data hosting and storage), Intasend (payments), and Resend (email delivery).
  • Where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of our users and FarmShed.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your information is stored securely with our hosting provider. We use access controls and security rules to limit who can see your data. Verification documents are kept private and are accessed only for the purpose of verifying users and operating the platform. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. You may ask us to delete your account and associated data, subject to any records we are required to keep.

8. Your Rights

Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Request deletion of your personal information, where appropriate.
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of your information.
  • Withdraw consent you have given, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

9. Children

FarmShed is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
